I place my chips between the shoulder blades and then go up just a little higher on the neck.. Be advised, I was told long ago, that chips can migrate around, usually going from high between the shoulder blades to down the side of the neck, even around to low on the front of the neck. I use Avid chips, and I have an Avid scanner. I can get within a foot of that dog and regardless of the area the chip MAY have migrated to, this scanner will register the chip....not like I have to cover every square inch of the dogs body, searching for the chip. I do not know if other chips or scanners are capable of doing this but Avid is.
