So we went to a vet about 2 hours away because we heard such great things about it. They wanted to keep him all day to run numerous test. They tested him for addisions disease and that was negative. They tested his bile aids (for possible liver shunt) those were good before eating and a little elevated after eating. She said that they consider it a liver shunt if it is over 100 and his was 90. She wants to check bile acids again in 2 months. They did full blood panel. Everything was in normal range. Even his total protein. YAY! They also did an ultrasound of his abdomen and she called me and asked if she had my permission to do a needle biopsy because she found enlarged lymph nodes in his abdomen. SCARY. I of corse said yes and she had to explain that it could just be inflammation, infection, or lymphoma. My dad is in remission after being diagnosed with lymphoma either this year...So of course I was upset to say they least that now my dog could have it Thankfully the cells came back "reactive"...which she said means that they are just reacting to inflammation, NO cancer cells. That was my far the longest wait of my life for those results. She suspected that any GI problems would cause inflammation of lymph nodes in that area. He use to be on Science Diet (bad parent I now) I should have done my research long ago and didn't. I trusted the breeder we got him from. That is what she fed him. The vet switched us to Royal Canin Rabbit. She said the reason for her choosing this food is because it only has 1 protein (being the rabbit). She knows he has had chicken, beef, turkey...and clearly hasn't responded well to them...so she wanted to introduce something "foreign" to his system. She sent us home with the dry and wet food. He has not thrown up since Sunday (when he was still on science diet) and has not thrown up since being on royal canin. That is with me giving him pepcid before bed every night. I don't know what would happen if I didn't. He is still doing the repetitive swallowing in bed at night..all through the night. Last night was a loooong one. But when we get up he doesn't throw up. I'm at least thankful for that, but wish he wouldn't have to do the swallowing. That tells me his belly is still upset but the pepcid is coating it. I am hoping that once I make the complete transition to Royal Canin Rabbit that the swallowing stops. I am still doing ratios with old food. Here is my question for everyone....I feel like since we started giving him some wet food that he isn't wanting to drink hardly any water. I don't know what to do! I swear its always something. Now he loves eating...but won't drink. We have to run with him or chase him around to get him to go to his water bowl. I don't get it!!! Could him having wet food for the first time ever make him not as thirsty because of all of the moisture in the wet? Also, do you notice your babies not drinking as much when its cold out? Thanks again for all your help!!!
