We are waiting for our Yorkie, and so I can't tell you definitely that my method will work for your dog, but here is what I do for my cairn terrier. I sit her on my lap as if she were a little baby, facing out. Then I use a coarse nail file (purchased from a local beauty supply store) and give her a doggy manicure. I start with her front paws followed by her back paws. It doesn't take long at all if you keep up with it on a bi-weekly basis. Usually the TV is on and time passes quickly. This method also keeps me from accidentally cutting the quick because I can see the softer dark part of her nail as I file. I stop after each paw and tell her what a good girl she is and let her move about on my lap. After we're done, I give her a treat. This method has worked for me--I hope it can work for you. By the way, the drimmel electric tool did not work for us--our dog hates the sound. |
