Plucking the ear hair is very important, as the hair blocks the air flow & it acts like a wick when wet. If your yorkie has a lot of hair coming out of the ear, it's best to only pluck the hair that is coming out of the ear canal (as those come out fairly easily & it doesn't hurt the dog) & shave all the rest of the hair (or use a blunt ended scissor bc pulling these hairs hurts them) only around the inside part of the ear. Keeping this area nice & clean will keep any ear infections @ bay.
My vet told me to be very careful when using any kind of powder to help grip the hair when pulling ear hair. Some dogs come in w/a totally blocked ear canal from the powder...the groomer used too much powder &/or it got blocked over time. |
