I shave the top 1/3 of the ear flap on the front and back.

For the ear canal, I do not pluck all of the hair. Some vets and groomers favor taking all of the hair out of the canal, others do not. In threads here on YT, I believe it is 50 - 50 on reports of which way individual Yorkies do better preventing ear infections.

For my guys, I favor keeping the canal reasonably free of hair and I use a flea comb with closely set teeth to keep the remaining hair clean. Combing removes loose hair.
