I really think that four gift exchanges are one or two many, so that's why participation has been dropping off. It seems like the smile boxes were all finally posted as the new GE was getting ready to start, IMHO that is just to close since anyone that participated is probably both wiped out and tapped out. Perhaps two a year or three max would boost participation, has anyone suggested that yet, and BTW who makes those kind of decisions, maybe a group vote is in order. I hope more will sign up at the last min, but only a few voiced interest so I guess we will see. I think most people spend more than the min, and I have never done a smile box, so Rhonda I know you sent me a link and but I still might need you to walk me through it via the phone, so I hope you will help me. I am really in it for the fun of getting lots of stuff, but not expensive stuff, just fun stuff to open for Lola. Sometimes I see such big and expensive gifts, but for me I would rather have lots of fun stuff and that is how I plan on shopping. LOL I guess I am quantity not quality type of girl, so cheap fun stuff is fine for me. |
Donna, I guess you and I are total opposites on this issue. I would rather receive (and give) one singular well thought out gift that is wanted/needed/appreciated than to add to the clutter of someones home (or my own) with random items just to fill a box.
I do, purchase a few "fillers" as well, but the box I like to create contains a few special items that let the receiver know that I was so very happy to send a personalized box
to them.
The boxes I have received, were likewise, filled with love. The dollar amount was never an issue, but in general the items that "wowed" were either homemade or purchased from a quality vendor.
The quilts from Shinja or the people sack from Rhonda (made by Sherry), the fleece blankets Rhonda made for us, or the Gingham dress from Michelle and her beautiful rag quilts as well or the little personalized bumble bee dress or even the laundry bag to hold my used potty pads designed for me by Cathy were all so special to me. If the boxes only contained that one item, I would have felt loved because these women took the time to find out about me and what makes us happy.
I know we are all different and that's what makes the GE special, just a different perspective
