I do want to add, my dads dogs have NEVER been on heartworm preventatives in their life and one is going on 6, the other going on 5... whatever that's worth. They spend a lot of time in the backyard too and outside.
However it's not a risk I'm willing to take. I'm very lax on the flea/tick meds, I don't do this EVERY 30 days or anything by any means (more like once every 3-4 months)... fleas and ticks are something very manageable and I give him a dose if I see more ticks/fleas, etc. I check him over every night, he gets a lyme/heartworm test every year, etc. But to me, heartworms is something you can't physically SEE and I don't want the risk of something developing inside him for something so preventable. |
