I think one of the best predictors is having a dog, that is well socialized with other dogs.
We do hope within the next year to add a puppy to our crew. Magic will be 7yrs old and Razzle 4 and a bit by then.

One thing you could try is babysitting your family's dog(s) for a weekend and see how everyone does.
