She likes it, eats it, begs for it and is up to her ideal adult weight of 9 pds (Yorkie-poo). BUT I dont like noises her tummy makes on it, sometimes good poos sometimes a bit off, throws up several times a week undigested food. Im going to feed store tomorrow to find another food after looking at reviews of nutra. People on reviews are complaining of their dogs doing same thing and some getting quite ill. IF I had a menu to follow that would keep her healthy and give her EVERYTHING she needed FOR SURE I would cook for her in a minute! Vet isnt for it. Said dog food is better for her. I dont agree. There seems to be no regulation on dog food compared to people food. Seems it would be safer to cook for her. oopsy.. sorry to blabber!!
When Gracie was a puppy I cooked for her because she would not eat kibble. I was also told to let her starve herself until she was hungry enough to eat. It just seemed wrong to me to have to starve a dog into eating something that was repulsive to her. When I started reading and checking out the ingredient lists on dog food labels I started thinking maybe my dog knew quite a bit more than me about these things. So many of the foods listed corn as a major ingredient on the label. That and a bunch of other things that bothered me. There are so many things I could not even identify and tons of synthetic vitamins. There are several recipes in the health and diet section here on YT for home made dog food and treats. I stay away from anything that has a lot of flower or grain in it. When I switched from using rice to sweet potato in the meals I made my Gracie fell in love with food again. Guess she decided she liked eating like a dog and not a cow.
I don't cook for her much anymore. She is on a commercial grain free raw diet. Vets' don't like the idea of anything except commercial kibble because that is when they use in all the veterinary colleges. The pet food companies donate money and product to the schools. Then they give the vets a lot of perks for using their products when they go into business. Pet food is a multimillion dollar business. With all the recalls and suspicious deaths of dogs that have eaten those jerky treats it may be time for pet owners to take a real close look at what they are feeding their pets.
