I recently lost my first yorkie, Dixie, at age 16. When she was around 14 she quit going up and down the steps we had for the dogs to get on the couch and bed. We would just pick her up and put her on the bed at night. She would make a cute little woofing sound if she needed down to use the bathroom.

My Shorty, who is almost 13, will not go up and down the steps either, but he is fat with short little legs. He was never much of a climber.

How is the vision on your little boy? Dixie's vision started getting bad when she was around 14 so I think that attributed to some of her reluctance of going up and down stairs.
