NO, you're not over cautious. It may depend on your baby's fur type. Lucy has very straight "hair." I'm letting it grow. If I don't brush her out after a wet walk (or at some point during the day) then the hair on her legs get's tangled and starts to mat. Nothing's worse than having to deal with one of those mats very close to the skin and on the upper inside part of her leg!

Sometimes I don't do it immediately but I do dry her off with a towel. As I dry her legs, I feel the fur to see if there's any knotted areas.

Can't hurt to brush her out if you have the time. It gets your baby used to being handled and brushed frequently too.
