I have to question your breeder's judgement and opinions. Dogs are carnivores and SHOULD eat meat. I wouldn't go too high on protein, but 30% or so should be fine, unless your dog has a medical reason to be on a low protein diet. I would ABSOLUTELY switch foods. Go to a good small pet food store in your area and see what they carry. Fromm is great food from a great company. Horizon is another great company that makes great foods. There are others also. I would stay away from foods made by Diamond. They use low quality ingredients and have poor quality control, basically only motivated by sales and profit. You should be able to get some samples from your local independently owned pet food store. If you don't have anything available locally, you can order online from places like Chewy.com, Petfood.com, PetcareRX.com, and there are several other good online stores. If you prefer to shop at Petco, they carry Blue Buffalo, Wellness, and Nature's Variety. There are so many choices out there that it will make your head spin. LOL
