You are right, sigh. It might help if I hear it coming and it delays diving or something, but from what I've heard of their attacks, about the time you hear them, they are already on your dog! Nothing to do to prevent the hawk/owl that I know of unless you follow the dog around everywhere it goes in the yard, I think, & maybe drop the open umbrella down over him and try fighting the bird off yourself. But I do hope if any coyote or big alley cat or anything else were around, the umbrella opened up might scare them away. Thankfully I live in a pretty busy neighborhood and we're not near a lot of open land or near the edge of the city where there is lots of woodlands but that is miles and miles from here. There is a pretty large busy highway a few blocks down and I keep hoping really dangerous critters walking or flying will steer fairly clear of areas blocks from that. I just don't know what else to do. My neighbor across the alley has a little Yorkie that sometimes stays out for hours with no sign of anyone. He has a house and I think a doggie door but I'm not sure about the latter. I would be so scared to just leave my dog outside like that. He's a lot bigger than Tibbe but still, he's a small little dog.
