I have "somewhat" a similar problem, in that my CPU runs near capacity frequently, holding up any activity, until it's caught up. This may be unavoidable in that I "updated" my Explorer from a 7 to an 8. I'm running WinXP btw.

But in my case, it's the "System Idle Process" file, which is showing a >90% CPU usage.

Is there anything I can do about this ?
