I really wish all breeders would do the dew claws, this is fairly simple if you do it when they are newborn, but many breeders don't want to learn how to do it, and don't want to pay the vet to do it. I've read of at least 5 Yorkies here getting their dew claw caught in something and ripping off, and it's very painful and bloody when that happens. If I were you, I'd ask the vet what he thought, is it attached firmly, or is it hanging on by a thread, something in-between? In other words, just how likely is it to become ripped off? The people here who have decided to surgically remove them say recovery takes longer than the neutering recovery takes. If you decide not to do it, get rid of any knitted or crocheted blankets and clip it when you do the other nails. Best of luck! |
