We did the expen thing as well in the beginning. Kaji now has access to the entire apartment (minus the kitchen). I can trust him not to mess, chew, or destroy anything. (except in the kitchen
that's blocked off with a baby gate)
We have moved back in with my parents. Grandma is with him most of the day, and grandpa works in the building where we live, so he is in and out all day. Not that it really matters. Kaji doesn't really care for them. He sits on my bed, or my shoes and waits for me to come home. He has warmed up to my parents a bit and will come out to visit with them for 30 mins then go back to my bed. It only took Kaji 3 years to warm up to grandma and grandpa.
