"This is what worries me. Gracie is only 4 lbs, and I can't for the life of me get her spayed. It scares me too. I am so sorry for what happened to little Ally. My heart just breaks. "

It is imperitive that if you own a small dog, a toy dog, but especially a Yorkie, you must know if your vet is experienced in caring for small dogs, toy breeds, and if you have one that specializes in Yorkies, you have struck a gold mine! A vet is not a vet is not a vet....They all have general vet knowledge, but it is just like any human doctor....you take your infant to a pediatrician......a doctor that specializes in babies and children....they specialize in the special requirements of babies....When I have my new owners talk with a vet they are looking at to take care of their baby, a couple of the questions is how many Yorkies do you see in your office monthly/annually. How many toy breeds are seen monthly/annually? Is there a vet on staff that specializes in toy breeds or even Yorkies? These are important attributes to look for in your vet. There are definate differences in these toy breeds/small dogs, and Yorkies have additional traits and idiosyncrisies that require special knowledge.
