But actually, all the hair is now growing back. All of his ears are covered in new fur, as well as his nose.

Did you get him as a puppy or an adult?
I am sure stress or diet could be the cause, particularly if an adult. I support a puppy mill rescue lady and a lot of the dogs she gets have fur loss.
