I am always so sad to leave my girls. ( I have to hide putting the suitcase in the car, or my Piccolo gets extremely upset, poor thing.) But, I am lucky enough to have a great husband that takes care of my girls while I am away, or we hire a stay-at-the-house dogsitter. Worth the expense to me! Also, taking the dogs with me is my favorite kind of vacation.
