Appreciate your feedback.
Kjc, have you had your babies spayed/ neutered? If so, we're they like back to normal after a few hours, half a day? Although she is more lively now, she is certainly no where near back to herself... |
Yes and no, seen thousands come out of surgery and through recovery (I'm a retired Vet tech). It all depends on the dog and the anesthesia used during surgery. Some dogs process anesthesia quicker than others.
I always advise to keep waking the dog/puppy up every 30 minutes or so, help them up and try them to walk around a bit, offer a drink and an opportunity to relieve themselves, each time until they are very normal. This helps to work the anesthesia out of their system.
They can be offered small drinks of water and a tiny amount of bland food (baby food chicken is good) every 30 minutes or so. Shaking can indicate being cold or low sugar, so the Nutrical/syrup and a blanket will come in handy.
I would say anywhere from 6-12 hours again depending on the dog. You should be seeing steady improvement each time they wake up or you wake them up. Small meals and drinks are important to prevent vomiting, which they will do after fasting and eating or drinking a large amount.
And with the smaller ones, getting them to eat would be a priority, although still keep the offerings small, but frequent.
