Well, I'm almost 100% sure it's not a hairball! Cats get hair balls because they groom themselves with their comb like tongue and then swallow the loose hair.

Your dog may just have had something in it's airway but was able to clear it or it could have been some reverse sneezing. Gracie usually only does the reverse sneeze when she is all excited though.

When you need to get your dog to drink you can offer her a little milk. I also find that if you have one of those drinking tops on a water bottle and pour the water slowly into a dish they tend to like drinking from a flowing water source. My Shih Tzu loved to drink from a small trickle of water coming from the bath tub faucet.

I hope your little one is feeling better and does not have anymore episodes of this.
