Sue,

Thanks for posting the link..the standard is that..the standard. It clearly defines 3 colors in specific places. One can't assume that's what he wanted just because of the name..you and I have a perfect example of why not..

I went to handling class tonight and ironically enough I talk to a breeder/handler that has a Belgian Teveruens. We got to talking and I learned that in the Herding Group there are 3 breeds of Belgian Shepards are all related to a T. The only difference is basically the color. They all are inter-related LIKE Biewers and Yorkies BUT..and this is a big BUT...they are considered their own breed and each has it's own standard..the only change really is the coloring of the coat. He even said that even though you breed let's say a pair of Belgian Malinois together you on rare occasions may produce one of the other two breeds in a litter..that is frowned upon and incorrect. Those should be s/n and petted out. PERIOD! So, there is no denying where the originated from but they are accepted and respected as individual breed even though the only thing that separates them is COLOR.. This is how I feel about Biewers and Yorkies.

If we dont' make this disinction of the 2 breeds early on..they Biewer will never thrive.

I am only going to take Biewers as far as I can. If I lose this battle..I am not going to continue with them. Until them I will still stay in my corner as you all put it and do what I feel was the intent, because that's all we have to go by is our feelings. Right? I am taken the written words in the standard and teh history as they are. Maybe it's just me but what a waste to breed the 2 together and dilute the standard of each breed.

I have a question, how do those of you that are in the opposing corner going to register your puppies from a mixed litter? Or maybe where do you plan on registering your litter as Biewers? I am curious because the IBC does keep a book to record and prove breedings of true Biewers. It says it plain as day on their website it's a benefit being a member of the IBC.

I am glad they we can discuss this as adults. We both have legit arguments. But the objective to breeding is to better the breed and breed the best specimens as described in the standard. That's what my hang up is.

I consider this a healthy brainstorming session, hope the rest of you do too.
