I always buy all natural treats or use real meat. I guess I don't agree much with the regular food idea. That is not really a treat that is going to be much of an encouragement to do something right. It is a good idea to keep the treat small. Just enough to let the puppy know that it has done something good. If a puppy is not a good eater it is important not to fill it up on treats.
