He had longer hair and then we cut him very short and he went quite some time not needing a topknot. I think that contributed to him now hating it. He has felt what it's like to not have to have it done every day and so he fights it by running his head all over in big circles n the carpet. Haha! So it may be up but it certainly isn't pretty. I did think if I let it grow longer it'd b harder for him to get it out. Other than the one time, he has always had long topknot hair so I'm nervous cutting it but I do want him to be comfortable and I want him to see If he is willing to compromise and let me groom his body and let that grow then I'm willing to compromise and cut his topknot It will make me sad though. I LOVE the Joey cut though. Great cut and I'm sure we will be doing it again once we move to Tennesse
Someone started calling it "the Joey" after he got the cut a few years ago. I really had never seen the cut before, but Joey's breeder does this cut on some of her dogs. I fell in love with it and when I posted a picture on YT, other people saw it and wanted a choice between long and the puppy cut and this was a good combo. The longer legs make it look fancy. We still get so many compliments on their haircuts.

Make sure you aren't putting the topknot on too tight, and give him a treat afterwards! Skip the bows, until he's use to the band, and then you can start with puppy bows. Joey's breeder told me that you should be able to slide a medal comb under the band, it sounds like something is hurting him. I actually think with long hair on the body, you definitely need the topknot, but that’s just my opinion. You can do it anyway you and Bentley like!
