My mother-in-law breeds Maltese. They are a wonderful little breed. Actually, they are a part of the Yorkie ingredients. They tend to be calmer. However, if you get a rowdy one, don't yell at me. In general, they are sweet, calm, intelligent and faithful. I would recommend them as a companion to both humans and Yorkies. Just watch that tearing of the eyes. They say the darker the dog food, the darker the eye goo. TMI?
