Joey's breeder told me to have food down 24/7 the first six months or so. In this way you avoid hypoglycemia. Puppies can use their energy reserves very quickly, and one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia, is lack of appetite, so if you wait too long, they won't even want to eat! I would have food down all the time, until your pup is at least 4 pounds.
