When I had my KB repaired, they cut off the chewed section and added a metal "tack", grommet, whatever you would call it to connect the now 2 pieces of lead. Basically making the strap a little shorter and doubling the strength because the pleather was double thickness at this new, reinforced joint.
I was charged $2.
