I have a Dyson Animal and love it too, an upright, not the ball. I was shocked
at what it got out of my carpet compared to the Oreck I had.
I can't offer any advice on the carpet (not sure what kind that is) I only have carpet in 3 bedrooms which is Berber and the Dyson does fine on them.
