Also I was probably taking Toki out to tinkle 4 hours or so after putting her to bed in her crate. I remember waking up at 3AM. A LOT. haha
You might even set an alarm or something to take your pup out every few hours overnight. If you take your puppy out of his crate every time he whines, he will learn that's how to get your attention (even if he just wants to play in the middle of the night). After having your pup for a little while, you'll be able to better anticipate his needs which will help immensely!
I feel like I prolonged the period of time that I was getting up in the middle of the night to take Toki out. Even though she was probably capable of holding her bladder at a certain point, I would just pop out of bed every time she whined or whimpered. Looking back, she probably just wanted to play or come be with us!
