I am a great beliver in "baselines"...when I take mine in for her xray/ultra-sound, I have them draw a calcium so I will know where I am at. After the babies are born and they go in for their well baby check, I have another calcium checked...so I know if I need to address that....you dont want eclampsia, if she is a good mommie, and she started out with a low normal calcium, with puppies nursing freequently and the litter being 3-5 babies, her calcium can deplete quickly...free feed that RC Starter, supplement with yogurt, cottage cheese, I give canned salmon 1/4 cup daily for additional calcium....and I keep (chicken flavored) calcium to give by mouth emergently if she shoulkd start showing any signs of eclampsia, before we head to the vet!
