Basically, it worthless, and since she advertised AKC pups, and that is a purebred registry which requires proof from the breeder, you could sue. I've seen several cases like this on the TV judge shows and the plantiff always wins, so you could get the difference between the amount you would pay for a purebred vs. what you would pay for a mixed breed. You would sue her under small claims courts, which require no attorney, you act as your own, and the filing fee is usually $10.00. You can sue for up to $2,000, I don't know the exact amount, you can google it, but you would need proof of purchase, and the classified ad.

But some 'breeders' are very clever - I've seen the ads. For example, they'll put "AKC Macy" in the title - but in very small print or buried in the middle of a lengthly listing they'll mention that the puppy is registered with APR. It's very deceitful. I bet that somewhere (either in the contract or the listing or on the breeder's website) the APR designation is mentioned. Everytime I'd see an ad like that, I'd run. And it doesn't matter if the breeder said that the puppy was AKC in a phone conversation either - that's going to be difficult to prove unless recorded. It's very very unfortunate. Every document and the actual listing needs to be reviewed carefully. These awful breeders know what their doing and they know the language their using. It's one of the reasons (among many) that I backed away from all online/newspaper listings in my pursuit of a puppy.

And I've seen Judge Judy knock down some breeders too - however, I've also seen her find in their favor when there's no definitive guaranty that the puppy would be appropriately registered. So it all depends.

Also remember: the cost of an attorney may exceed the cost of the puppy and it may be difficult to pursue the breeder if their out of state (you'd have to appear in court there.) You should certainly report to the BBB and other state agencies if you've been deceived.

I hope this resolves favorably. Ultimately, loving your puppy - no matter what registry - is still a good thing!! Good luck.
