Unfortunately, the law protects tbe breeder/broker more. You can recoup vet expenses, but ONLY in the amount of the purchase price of the puppy. So if you buy a $1,000 puppy, and spend $3,000 in vet bills, by law you'd only be entitled to $1,000. At least that's the Puppy Lemon Law here in Florida, I don't know about other states. I paid $1,100 for Luna and was able to get our $700+ ER Vet bill reimbursed.

Either way, the OP really should pay for the puppy and then follow proper procedure to recoup her money. Otherwise this will just be hanging over her head.
