Hi, I just adopted a puppy and I've only had her since Saturday.
She is 4lbs and 21 weeks old, her birthday is Jan. 13.
I've been doing research on every single thing you could think of before I brought her home, so I thought I would be very prepared on how to train her and stuff, but she won't potty where and when I want her to!
I originally wanted to do the outdoor potty training method, and so I had a set schedule for her.
7am: wake up potty
12-1: lunch, potty
5: dinner, potty
1030: before bed potty
11: bedtime
And in between those times, if she took naps right after I'd take her out to potty and after we play.
HOWEVER she doesn't potty when and where I want her to! I read that dogs should have a natural instinct when you want them to potty but she doesn't seem to have it.
The only time she would potty correctly is her first potty, the wake up potty, probably because she's been holding it in for so long. I tell her good job and reward her with a treat so she knows this is a good thing but she doesn't keep it up for the rest of the day.
I tried the pee-towel trick, where you'd leave a towel with her pee scent on it so she'd know to pee in that spot but that doesn't seem to work.
I bring her outside each time I want her to potty, wait with her for over 30 minutes and I bring her inside thinking she doesn't need to potty, the second I open the door she runs in and pees on my carpet.... what the heck....
Sometimes when I catch her about to pee, I swoop her up and bring her outside right away and still she doesn't potty. I know she has to, because she just tried to but she's holding it in! Then I get fed up because I've been outside for so long let her in and she potties on my carpet.

Help please! I know I have to be patient but how come she doesn't know I want her to potty in a specific area?
