Just use esnipe. So much easier. I've won many times with this service. You only have to pay 1% of the total bid win. If you don't win, you don't pay. They put in your bid 6 secs before the end of the auction. Often times if I don't put in my bid on esnipe, I forget what time the listing ends, and I end up losing out. With esnipe you don't have to worry as long as you've put it in esnipe.

Also, a biggie, if you change your mind before the 6 secs, you can cancel your bid. If you put the bid in through ebay you can't retract your bid, except for a few specific reasons. Also not putting your bid in directly with ebay doesn't let others know you are interested in the item.
