I agree. I will never play with heartworms. I do skip flea treatments because I honestly never see them. I used to...for many years I used Advantage and had no issues.
As for your vet comment...I agree...either that (money) OR they are not up to date...and in either case I would run. They definitely are not into HW preventatives for the money...it is a very, very real threat.
