that will depend on how much your Yorkie is outside. For a non Show Yorkie I think that two weeks should be plenty, or even every third week, given you do a mini clean up after pottying.
If you get good dog shampoo, and truly really really rinse it out, shampoos should not dry out the coat; also Yorkies need a conditioner. This may seem excessive but count on washing out that shampoo for 5 plus minutes. If you think you have all the suds, rinse again for another minute or two. Remember their ears, their tummy and privates; all the way under their armpits.
