When I finally had to have my Shih Tzu put down a couple of years ago I did not even consider having another dog at first. I had always encouraged people to go out and get another animal after a loss as there are always so many poor creatures out there needing someone to love and care for them. But I had lived with my little guy for 15 years and could not consider starting all over again with a puppy. How could I replace perfection? I went several months before the inkling of having another dog started to hit me. I slowly let the idea buzz around in me and it grew until I decided to look for a smaller adult dog. When I couldn't find one of those in my area I had to consider getting a puppy. By then I felt like I was going through withdrawals!

Take your time. You are never going to replace Cosmo but you can have some fun doing research on breeders and different lines. You will have time to prepare yourself for having a puppy in the house and all the challanges that you will face with a baby in the house. You will find the right one but please be careful and do your research. Don't hurry into a purchase that could cause big regrets later on.
