I've been there too and am so sorry for your loss. Our toy poodle (my "first born" before the skin kids arrived) was 15 years old and was everything to me. It was a very hard decision to put him down but it was time (he had a stroke in the very end). I, like you, didn't like the idea of "replacing him" but knew that I had to have another furkid in my life soon. We got Tatum about 2 weeks after and everyone agreed that it was the best thing for us. Just don't think of it as replacing your baby.... that's not possible. Just make room for a new kind of love.
