Also many breeders do not often repeat breedings - ie same sire and dam. Particularly if there is a particular goal you have in mind from your breedings. Maybe you wanted to correct head, or bring in some size to your program.
I've not known with-in my breed to let all the dogs run free together....It is crate and rotate when necessary with this large breed. Ie: you have a female in heat. Also we do not allow free matings - too dangerous for the male. In fact more and more breeders are going to IV.

I was stunned and amazed when I first heard of letting everyone just run loose, anyone breeding anyone...anytime anyone came into heat....I would be absolutely nuts with a system like that!! And like you say, after the tie, if she decides to chase a squirrel....poor him! I do repeat breedings when I have a breeding pair that consistantly produces what I am wanting....I have a couple now that I do that with....and I do try to re-home close to home so I can at least keep up with the girls and visit once in a while.
