I know I'm not a breeder and I do not know what goes behind it, reading your post and trying to understand it, makes me think I was a little harsh or too fast to point! You are 100% correct in everything that you said!
I thought for the most part the breeder will keep the male/ female after they retire them- maybe that is only breeders who dont have as many dogs??
I will say this it looks like the puppies are loved- as well as the male and female she breeds- |
Thank you for your comment....Like I wanted to stress, I am not defending this womans breeding program....I have NO idea if she is an ethical breeder or not....I just wanted to give you a prospective view from the other side on a couple of the facts you mentioned...and point out there is more cause for concern when you see breeders dumping babies out at 6-8 weeks of age....the ONLY reason you do that is to avoid all the expenses of vaccinations, etc....and also, from 6-10 weeks, these babies are REALLY vulnerable....and if things are going to come unwound with them, it usually occurs about then....so if a breeder is just pumping out puppies with only a profit margin in mind, THOSE are the ones you notice!...."get rid of those pesky little critters before you have to invest any money into them and before they get sick and DIE on you and you have nothing to peddle!!!"
Keeping the breeders you retire is a wonderful concept if you are a hobbist who is not serious about doing this for a long period of time, or you WILL get inundated with a collection of dogs....it always KILLS me to rehome my breeders.....I love this ladies and they work so hard with me.....I do the best I can possibly do to give them the very best of everything and we care for their babies together, and then she is ready to relinquish those babies to me, trusting I will continue to do the best I can for them....but when I retire THEM, it kills me....believe me, I would keep them ALL if that was even remotely possible.....you just cant....Thank you for seeing what I was trying to point out to you!
