I agree that mentoring is a wonderful thing that breeders can do to help others interested in breeding and I applaud those who do so out of the goodness of their hearts. I like the attitiude of shared knowledge instead of secrets and discouraging others to prevent competition.
As an attorney I am always in favor of written contracts and agreements because then everyone knows what the terms are, there are realistic expectations on all sides and everyone knows what their obligations and responsibilities are.
The contract should be executed before any money changes hands and the terms of any deposit and its refundability should be spelled out in the written contract.
