Just heard back from the Emu oil company. Here is their reply. Sounds humane.

" When the birds are processed for the meat they are knocked out with a stun gun.* They are hung from tall racks and their juggler vein is cut.* Their hearts are still beating so the blood is naturally pumped from the bird.* It is totally painless for the bird.* This is the same way Kosher Butchering is done.

We are actually growing the birds for the meat, the oil is a by product of the bird.* All parts of the bird are used.* The feathers, the fat, the meat, the hide."

I don't know about other companies but this brand is OK by my standards. This is "Blue Ridge" brand.
