We worry about having too many pets - and I have friends who practically have zoos. I'm talking about a couple dogs, cats, lizards, birds, a horse or two, a couple rabbits, and a goat (this is one friend I have). She and her husband have three kids - they live outside of town and all love and take care of all the pets -- to say nothing of all the company they have that goes over and enjoys them too.
I live alone and have two dogs and one bird (used to have two cats also) - and, believe me, I have enough pets for just me.
A lot of having pets and caring for them depends on a person's or family's lifestyle and the environment they live in.
I work part time, but have a big house, and I am a real stay at home. This helps me be more able to care for several pets. I do think though that if I were younger and had a husband and children and lived outside of town - that I would love having more animals and really enjoy them and we'd all be able to care for them and give them a lot of attention.
Some people almost devote their lives to their pets - other people have many other interests, and still enjoy having a pet.
I think the number of pets people have depends on their environment, the number of people in a family, and the amount of time they are willing to spend and enjoy with their animals.
Yes = of course - I think if people have more animals then they can care for -this is bad!
I read a lot of "I wouldn't do this..." or "I wouldn't do that....," which is fine. But that doesn't mean that everyone has the same preferences and enjoyments in life. We shouldn't be so fast to judge or expect other people to live in whatever manner that we have chosen for ourselves.
One of my friends has seven children - I wouldn't go there in a million years - but she and her husband love and enjoy their big family to pieces. And, I won't even tell you how many pets they have...
