Vets are busy dealing with medical issues and many times do not have much interest in the inner workings of the pet food industry. Many of our pet treats are full of unhealthy ingredients. So many dogs have bad teeth by the time they are only two and three years old. The treats mentioned here have at least 2 forms of sugar in them. Sugar should not be needed to entice a dog to eat but when the ingredients are items that a dog would not naturally be interested in eating the company will load up the food/treat with ingredients that will entice the animals to eat it. Many times treats like this are left over ingredients from the slaughter house plush chemicals that no dog would ever come in contact with in nature.
The fewer ingredients in treat the better. Here are a few examples of healthy treats:
Newman's Own Organics Natural Dog Treats Stella & Chewy's Grain Free, Freeze-dried, Raw Carnivore Kisses Dog Treats
I'm sure there are others. I can't imagine handing my dog a candy bar full of sugar and low grade fillers. But a food source that would be part of a dog's natural diet that they love seems to be a more healthful choice. The pet food industry is famous for marketing junk food for dogs. I hope someday more and more vets will become more aware of what the pet food industry is doing to our pets. The dog and cat's bodies were not made to assimilate they types of ingredients that are currently in so many of the products that the big manufacturers are loading the shelves of department stores and pet stores with.
