A friend just had a terrible time with infection on her yorkies paws and it WAS mites....Also - compulsive chewing can be a kind of nervous thing with some dogs...and it could possibly be allergies and you got some great advise about food -
Sometimes eliminating the everyday things slowly will find you a solution and I hope changing the food works for you....
on another note - my cocker Tessa used to suck her toes....it was a baby thing though - cute to see... but then kind of worrisome - but she stopped doing it after a while...
