I heartedly agree with all. Also didn't you mention he was very skinny and dirty? I know that IG's are a slim breed of dog, but did you weigh him to see the difference in his weight now versus when you adopted him out?
To me this signifies a) either the owners did not feed him enough or b) he had to have been out for at least 24-48 hours.
also if you haven't already do a through exam of him. Ears/eyes/mouth,genitals, belly, paw pads et al. I hope he was up to date on his shots; cause I wouldn't trust that blankety blank blank owner to have seen to that.
Christ you have to ask about heartworm meds - do you think he has been on them since your ownership? You might need a heartworm test. Sigh
So sorry this happened to you, but so glad you found him safe n sound.
