I once brought 2 Norwegian Elkhound puppies back from Boise, Idaho to D/FW and they rode under my seat in a carrier, slept most of the way. I was permitted back then to take them out and hold them, give them some water but then put them back in the carrier and they went back to sleep. It must have been the drone of the plane engines or something as they were 12 weeks or maybe slightly older & live wires but boy, they slept like they were drugged on that long flight. And they had had no drugs or anything to sedate them. But that was years ago before things got so different & flying was still fun. Did not have to purchase a separate seat for them.
