I don't think it's due to the sex of the dog...I think it's the dog individually. Mine are both 2 years old now, and very similar, but with noticeable differences.
Brody is very affectionate, does lots of little Brody kisses, loves to lap sit, loves to be brushed and/or combed, but will go off by himself now and then to take a nap in a quiet space or sit in a sunbeam...but he never left my side until a couple months ago...he was 14 months old when I got him in May 2011. Brody likes to play with Mia and other dogs, but seems to prefer to play with me...at least at times, and he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES toys! Brody is a little comedian and likes to tease you, too.
Mia will drown you with kisses, jumps up and down with excitement of seeing you again...in the last 5 minutes, will let you brush/comb until your time is up, and has rarely left my side since I got her in Aug. 2011...she was 17 months old at the time. She's somewhere on, beside, behind me at all times. She will "stay" until she's sure I am going somewhere...like the kitchen for a cup of water for them...then runs to catch up. Mia is very playful and energetic, likes toys, likes to play with me, LOVES to play rough with Brody (and other dogs and cats), knocking him down and bowling him over, she runs circles around him and he's quick and agile. Mia's not as toy-centric as Brody by a long shot. but she'll take a toy she knows he'll want and taunt him, or 'defense' against him getting up on the love seat or bed with me.
Both love to be carried, and go ride...anywhere. Both snuggle in bed and move to 'slightly alone' spaces as well. Both want to go wherever I go, although Brody sometimes insists I carry him...and he directs me around the yard until he finds the space he wants to be set down on.
Your baby is still quite young. I am sure things will change more than once.
