With such small dogs, I don't think anyone can be over protective. Fortunately for us, we have enough country with an abundance of natural prey animals, that we don't hear of prey birds or coyotes hunting in back yards, but still concerning. (coyotes are a huge problem though for farm and barn cats. Many farms around here can't keep cats around due to bob cats, coyotes and birds) I was awakened the other night to an owl hooting close to my bedroom window. That was kind of an Oh ___! moment for me. Our owls are the huge ones and more freightening than the hawks.
