This is how I understand it as well. Zimmerman called, reported his suspicions, police asked if he was following Trayvon, Zimmerman said yes, police asked him not to, Zimmerman continued anyway. That's pretty darn provocative, at least it is in my mind -- he did exactly what the police know is NOT a good idea for a citizen to do. Tracking and finding reported 'suspicious people' is what police do.

If you are a watchman, are carrying a gun, and tracking someone you deem "suspect"...you're not just reporting a potential crime, you are potentially getting involved in a suspected crime, and at that point, even may end up being the sole perpetrator of a crime...while the victim was never intending a crime at all.
